Rabindranath came to London from Paris on 10th Oct, 1878. He started from India to England on 20th Sept, 1878. He stayed there for 2/3 hours and then started for Brighton from London.
Jnanadanandini with his son, Surendranath, and daughter, Indira, stayed there in the Sassex County south of England and near to the sea-shore. Rabindranath became astonished to see the railways of England. He saw that trains go from the right, from left, from the top and from the bottom. On seeing this he remembered the people of London going in a hurry this way , that way and from every ways. As if they don't have any time to spare.
Rabindranath wrote about the residence at Brighton, "Our house at Brighton is near the sea. 20/25 houses stand in rows and the name of the complex is Medina Villas. When I first heard that we would be living in Medina Villas, I imagined a lot such as there are gardens, big big trees, flowers , fruits, open space and lakes etc. After coming to my place I found houses, roads, cars horses and no sign of Villas.In comparing with ours the houses here are big in length and breadth but their heights are low.
Rabindranath was first introduced with Surendranath and Indira. He wrote that the children became astonished to see his English pronunciation. Indiradebi said that he had peculiar tricks to please the children. He used to sing in a funny way.
Later, Rabindranath wrote about the life of Brighton, "When I reached England , it was middle of October. Cold has not set in. We were in Brighton. Sun still shining there.We along with children are moving here and there on the sea shore. We had walking time at 11 am.when the sun is above . He wrote , " I have not to learn how to mix up with the people here as I have contact with those who stayed here for long time.
He was admitted in a public school at Brighton.But after inquiry it was found that it was not true. He was admitted in a day school and not a public school. Though the students behaved with him heartily , his stay in the school did not last long. He was brought to London in Jan 1879
Rabindranath came to England in the last week of Oct 1878, he was admitted in school at the beginning of Nov. He came to London in Jan 1879. His school life did not last more than two months.
Rabindranath knew England through literature. He thought that this three ft wide country would be full of Music of Tennyson.Where he stays in this three ft wide land he would hear lecture of Gladstone, explanation of Veda by Maxmuller, scientific theories of Tindal, deep thought of Karlylre, Philosophy of Benn .
Rabindranath wanted to hear and learn English tunes. Tarak nath Palit, boyhood friend of Satyendranath was there for imparting education to his children.He thought that it would be misuse of staying at Brighton Rabindranath should be brought to London.He consulted with Satyendranath and brought him in London and kept him alone in a hired house. Rabindranath said that the house was in front of Regent Park.
While staying there he was given lesson in Latin. From this place he was brought to the house of Mr.Burker, member of a family of Pandit in Greek and Latin. Once he was a clergyman, always busy , the half-old teacher was fretful and his wife was a well behaved gentle lady. This childless couple was not one in mind So a suppressed unpleasant situation was existing between them. Mrs. Burker took care of Rabindranath and loved a dog named Tiny. For this she extended her area of pain. Because when Mr.Burker wanted to punish her , he punished the dog..
There was another Burker who could make student pass the entrance examination. Rabindranath took lesson from him in history with the help of "Greens history of the English pupil "
An important incident took place in the life of Rabindranath in 1879.i.e.,publication of Kabikahini in the form of a book.This was the first publication of Rabindranath in the form of a book.
Rabindranath said with respect to this book, "Kabikahini Kabya is the first book published among all my writings.When I was in Ahmedabad, Mejdada's place, One of my enthusiastic friend printed the book send to me and make me astonished. .."
But this book did not have a 2nd edition or reprinted again.
In this year two writings of Rabindranath were published in Bharati, in Ashwin issue.

In Kartik issue also two writings ofRabindranath was published;
1. Gete and his lovers,
2. Foolabala see Shaishab Sangeet.
