In the first part of Jan 1879 Rabindranath left Brighton with Tarak Nath Palit and came to London, He took a house on rent and lived alone. . After some time he went to the house of Mr. Burker and lived with his family. While staying in London he visited the House of Commons for two days. The date in which he first went there was 23rd May 1879. Mr. O'donnel , a Irish member, spoke against the Press-act. Rabindranath said that he could not find a good number of visitors in Diplomatic gallery.From spring season to the (Rabindranath Tagore monument in Gordon Square - Early life of Rabindranath Tagore ) summer, a few days, London becomes filled with different cultural activities like theater, dance, song etc. Though he came to London for sitting in Civil Service exam. or Barrister, he wanted to see the life of the English people from distance without mixing with them.He portraited the society of the English people.
However, he left London and went to Tunbridge Wells within Kent county, a village . Satyendranath and Jnanadanandini were along with him.
He was exhausted to live in smoke-filled London and became satisfied after coming to a village .
Jnanadanandini wrote in her Memoirs about Tunbridge wells. It was summer when Rabindranath came to Tunbridge Wells.But the weather here was not soothing and he went to Torquary , Devenshire at the call of Jnanadanandini.
Here he wrote a poetry, Bhagna Tari published in Bharati,in Asharh issue.
Rabindranath came back to London for his exam. in Jun 1879 and remained in the house of Dr. Mr. Scott who had four daughters, two sons, three servants,and a dog, named Toby. The elder son Mr N was serving in an office and was engaged with a Miss J and 3rd daughter Miss A fled away to a relative's house in afraid of the arrival of an Indian and did not return in a week.. They returned after a week and when Miss J remarked that one could not look to her face for two days.
Rabindranath was really happy to live in a family atmosphere. Rabindranath wrote. " Within few days, I became their family member. "
Taraknath Palit brought him from Jnanadaanandini to make him free from Family disturbances but here he was mixed up in a close family relationship. The quality Mrs. Scott had was her respect to her husband. Rabindranath wrote, "We used to say and I too believed that the respect an Indian wife kept to her husband is rare in Europe." The natural ending of love of one female to one she loves is her respect to the respective person.
After few months in the family of Dr. Scott, Rabindranath was admitted in the Faculty of Arts and Laws of University College, London on 13th Nov 1879 at the initiative of Tarak Nath Palit when Rabindranath was 18.
It was not known how older his eldest daughter Miss K was than Rabindranath. Her relation with Rabindranath was formal and that of Miss J and Miss A was close. Though there were three maid servants , they used to do the necessary domestic work. Miss J do dusting of the furniture in the drawing room everyday and in her leisure time read Green;s History of the English people.Miss A do stitching of pillow cover, sitting cloth, shocks, clothes etc., do netting with woolen thread for son of his brother. She is the only singer and do singing with instruments. Apart from this they do all the social formalities, have evening walk with all the members. In the night after dinner they used to sit by the fire, do gossiping and singing. Rabindranath began to learn many English tunes. Miss A taught him how to play piano and taught many songs. But most of the days they were engaged in studying. They studied the relationship between man and literature.
Henry Morley (1822-94) was the teacher of Rabindranath in English literature.
Henry Morley (15 September 1822 – 1894) was an English academic who was one of the earliest professors of English literature in Great Britain. Morley wrote a popular book containing biographies of famous English writers.
Rabindranath maintained deep regards to him through out his life. He wrote, "I was then admitted in London University. Henry Morley was teaching us English literature. That was not the rotten goods supplied from the text book.Literature was in his heart which got life in his sweet voice and which touched our heart, to satisfy fully our hunger without any loss by the middle man during his delivery.
The famous geologist Pramatha nath Basu (1855-1935) opened a class for Civil Service examinee of Indian Students . Rabindranath joined this tutorial at the end of 1879 or beginning of 1880.
Along with Satyendranath Rabindranath returned to Calcutta in Mar 1880 without securing any formal certificate.

1. Brighton,2. London,3. Tunbridge Wells and 4. Torquary, Devenshire.
He returned to Kolkata in Mar 1880.
