3rd Jun on the day of birth day of George 5th ,name of Rabindranath was included in list persons to be honoured .He was offered Night hood The news was informed in advance by none but Lord Hardinge , he wrote
"Dear Sir Rabindranath Tagore
I have much pleasure in informing you that, upon my recommendation , the King Emperor has been pleased to confer a Knighthood upon you as a mark of His Majesty's appreciation of literary talents.
. Yrs . Sincerely,
Hardinge of Penhurst."
But the certificate on this occasion offered to him does not bear any sign of his literary talents. It say as follows;

of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and of the British Dominions beyond the seas
King Defender of the faith do all to whom these presents shall come Greeting
Know Ye We of Our especial grace certain Knowledge and mere motion have given
and granted by these Presents Do give and grant unto Our trusty and well beloved
Rabindranath Tagore. Esquire of Bolpur , Bengal, the dgree title
honour and dignity of a Knight Bachelor together with all rights precedences previleges and advantages to the same degree title honour and dignity belonging or appertaining in witness where of we have caused these our letters to be made patent witness ourselves at westminister the eighteenth day of june in the sixth year of our reign.

Having been published this news innumerable numbers of letters congratulating him from all over the world were coming to him.Rabindranath too became tired to reply all these letters.
Dr. Rashbehari Ghosh too was being conferred Knighthood along with Rabindranath Tagore.
Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote in a letter to Amal Home on 16th Aug 1919, " One day C.R.Das said that tears were coming down his eyes when Rabindranath accepted Knight hood."
